As promised here is your ICTPD online! I am a very new blogger so please go easy on me! I welcome tricks and tips from anyone. I challenge you to have a go.
The theme this term is on e-trends and in a broad take on that, we began by looking at the biggest e-trend in our school at the moment and that is the new OTLE (online teaching and learning environment) Desire to Learn which will have a major impact on all of us early next year. It was nice to have a sneak preview wasn’t it? Or if you haven’t been able to view it, hopefully you will see it at the session arranged for it.
Your First Mission
Make a connection with a student that you haven’t done before. Then add a comment to this post and tell us about your experience.
Some of you are already doing loads of really neat things with your students and it would be really helpful if you shared some with us so we can all learn from each other. One that I have been developing recently is the use of the ‘chat’ function in skype. I have been encouraging students to all get it downloaded and a neat new feature of the latest skype version is that when a contact comes online there is a little pop-up box that tells you. I have found this really useful if you want to make contact and encourage a student to get engaged – it is instant communication and gives instant feedback or support. It is also less ‘in your face’ than ringing.
Some things you could try:
• etxt
• video conferencing
• online chat
• online conferencing
• contribute to discussion on Blackboard
• blog
• create a wiki with a group of students
• podcast
• vodcast
• skype
I am sure there are other ways!
If you could like some help, please ask Lee, Linzi or myself or…. Google it!
Good luck, look forward to reading your comments!
On the move…
